Andalucía Spain photography tour
DAY 1 – March 23th – Malaga
Welcome to Malaga Spain!
This is the birthplace of the famous artist Pablo Picasso. Malaga has an impressive number of museums and monuments, including the 11th-century Alcazaba Fort and Museo Picasso Malaga, and provides a different view for those who do not want to spend all their time on the coast’s beaches and their bars. The Paseo del Parque offers a delightful stroll past banana trees and fountains. Mark will lead an evening photo walk before dinner, which will be between 8pm and 9pm
Tonight we will stay at the 4-star MS-Maestranza Hotel near the new Marina.
Inclusions: Tours and accommodations.
DAY 2 – March 24th – Ronda
We will start day 2 with some more Málaga touring with Mark, with possible visits to the Cathedral, Alcazaba Fortress, or the Picasso Museum.
Lunch will be ‘Chiringito’ barbecue fish near the Mediterranean!
Next we will travel to incredible Ronda, a beautiful city, known for its bridges, bull fighting and being split in half by the El Tajo gorge. The most popular attraction is the “New Bridge” or as the locals call it “Puente Nuevo”. This breathtaking bridge took 40 years to complete and connects a newer part of the town to the older side. Mark will take the photographers down to the lower parts of the gorge to capture the New Bridge in the evening light.
Accommodations tonight will be at the 4 star Catalonia Hotel.
Inclusions: Breakfast, transportation, entrance fees, and accommodations.
DAY 3 – March 25th – Setenil de las Bodegas
Today we will depart Ronda late morning after a sunrise photoshoot, but not before checking out the famous Bullring. It is one of the oldest in Spain, and has been renovated into a museum. It was orginally established in 1537 by the local nobility to train and develop horse riding skills, in order to defend the realm.
We will then depart for Setenil de las Bodegas.
Setenil de las Bodegas is an interesting place with the inhabitants living under a rock! ‘Solid as a rock’ Setenil (unavoidable pun) later began using the cool areas under the rock to store all kinds of local produce in large storerooms, which is how the town earned the second part of the name, “bodegas“, meaning ‘warehouse’ in Spanish.
There we will have lunch and after Mark leads a photo walk in the town, we will travel to Seville, with a short stop at Zahara de la Sierra. You will have to photograph the remains of Moorish castle, which was built in case of an attack and sits at the very top of town on a hill, overlooking the town. Upon arrival in Seville, we will receive a one and a half hour guided evening tour of the historic areas.
We will be staying 2 nights at the 4 star Hotel Fernando in Seville.
Inclusions: Breakfast, transportation and accommodations.
DAY 4 – March 26th – Seville
Today we will begin with a walking tour of Seville with Mark. We will be visiting La Plaza de España, a plaza that incorporates Baroque Revival, Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival styles of Spanish architecture, and the Barrio Santa Cruz, the former Jewish quarter.
After this tour, we will visit the Real Alcazares, or historically known as al-Qasr al-Muriq (The Verdent Palace), is a royal palace that was built for the Christian king Peter of Castile in the 10th century! It is also still in use today.
Seville is a place full of wonder and amazing history. It is the fourth largest city in Spain and according to legend, founded by Hercules. It is the largest historic centers in all of Europe. One of the districts of Seville, Barrio de Triana, is considered the birthplace of Flamenco dancing (remember to bring those dancing shoes with you!)
We will have a Tapas lunch and then check out the Cathedral. Both of these places are UNESCO heritage sites!
The Cathedral is the fourth largest church in the world as well as the largest Gothic church.
We will then have some free time. Mark recommends visiting the Seville Metropol Parasol (the “Setas”), which has some fantastic views of the city.
Inclusions: Breakfast, transport, entrance fees, and accommodations.
DAY 5 – March 27th – Carmona
On Day 5, we sadly will say goodbye and depart Seville around 10am after a morning photo walk, heading to Carmona.
Carmona is an ancient town. One of the must-see spots is the Alcazar de la Puerta de Seville. One of the towers, named “Tower of Gold” gives you an incredible view of the town. There is also a market in what used to be a Dominican Monastery, which was redesigned to feature arcade games and art galleries around the perimeter.
We will have an outdoor lunch and a photo walk with Mark, and then continue on to Córdoba. At Córdoba we will do an evening walking photo tour. This walk will include Barrio San Basilio, Puente Romano, and Mesquita
We will be staying 3 nights at the 4 star NH Amistad Hotel.
Inclusions: Breakfast, transportation and accommodations.
DAY 6 – March 28th – Córdoba
Day 6 will be a busy sightseeing day, visiting Córdoba monuments.
Córdoba is the 11th most populated city in Spain. It is home to stunning Moorish architecture, the most popular being Mezquita-Catedral. This cathedral was also named a UNESCO heritage site in 1984. Good thing we are going in February, as Córdaba has the hottest summers in all of Spain and Europe, with the average temperatures being 37 degrees Celsius.
We will be visiting and photographing other historic sites, such as the Barrio San Basilio, the City Walls and the Juderia (Jewish Quarter).
In the afternoon we will visit the Mezquita-Catedral and the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos
The evening will be dinner and an evening photo walk.
Inclusions: Breakfast, transport, entrance fees, and accommodations
DAY 7 – March 29th – Zuheros
Today we are focusing on Zuheros & Priego de Córdoba
First stop is the Subbética National Park, which includes Zuheros.
Zuheros is a small town outside Córdoba which is very scenic, and their most popular attraction is the Cueva de los Murciélagos. This cave system has the largest bat population in Anadulsía, however Robert Pattinson (Batman) will not be in attendance. The cave is a total of 2,000m in length, with only 450m able to be accessed!
Lunch will be in Priego de Córdoba, another small town with many must-see photo spots that Mark will lead us on. This town has many names, including “City of water” due to its many springs, and “Jewel of the Baroque native in Córdoba” for all the town’s Baroque construction.
We will return to Córdoba and in the evening have our dinner and photo walk.
